How to convert markdown to PDF on Android
Not everyone can open a .md file. When you need to send notes, a report or an AI answer to someone else, a PDF is safer: it looks the same everywhere.
Many guides suggest online converters. That means uploading your document to a stranger's server. On Android you can do it on the device instead.
Convert with MD Reader and Android's print service
- Open the
.mdfile in MD Reader (or paste the text with Paste from clipboard). - Tap ⋮ → Print / Save as PDF.
- At the top of the print screen, choose Save as PDF as the printer.
- Tap the PDF button and choose where to save it.
The PDF contains the formatted document: headings, tables, highlighted code, math formulas and diagrams. The conversion happens entirely on your phone. MD Reader doesn't request internet access.
Tips for a nicer PDF
- Paper size and orientation: change them on the print screen. Landscape helps with wide tables.
- Light theme: dark mode is for reading. Switch to a light theme first if your PDF should look like a printed page.
- Page range: choose Pages on the print screen to save part of a long document.
- Text size: adjust it in Reading settings before printing. See comfortable reading settings.
Need HTML or a direct export?
MD Reader Pro (a one-time purchase) adds direct export to PDF and HTML.
Sharing the markdown itself
If the other person uses markdown too, just send the .md file with ⋮ → Share. It's smaller, and they can edit it.
Why not an online converter?
Online converters work. But your document leaves your phone, may be stored on someone else's server, and needs internet. For private notes, work documents or anything personal, converting on the device is the safer choice. See why an offline markdown viewer matters.
