How to save AI chat answers as markdown files on Android

Updated:

AI chats are a bad place to keep things. Long conversations get hard to scroll, chats get deleted, and finding "that answer from last month" means searching through everything. Saving the answers you want to keep as markdown files solves this:

Save an answer in four steps

  1. In ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, tap copy under the answer. This copies the markdown.
  2. Open MD Reader and tap Paste from clipboard. Check that it looks right.
  3. Tap ⋮ → Save as….
  4. Pick a folder (for example Documents/AI notes), give the file a name, and save it as .md.

Get it on Google Play

Make the answer worth saving

Before you copy, ask the assistant to tidy it up:

Rewrite your answer as a markdown document with a title, short sections with headings, and a summary at the top.

Clear headings give you a useful table of contents when you reread it later.

Edit before you save

AI answers often need a small fix: a wrong detail, a note for yourself, a removed paragraph. Tap Edit in MD Reader and change it on the formatted page. You don't need to know markdown. See editing without markdown syntax.

Turn plans into checklists

If the answer is a plan or steps, ask for it "as a markdown checklist". After saving, you can tick items off while reading. See markdown checklists on Android.

Share it as a PDF

To send an answer to someone who doesn't use markdown, use Print / Save as PDF. See markdown to PDF on Android.

Does this work with every assistant?

Yes, as long as the copy button gives you markdown. ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini do. If you only get plain text without any # or **, select the text and share it instead, or ask the assistant to "reply in markdown".
